At the core of I et al philosophy is the concept of therapy not being experienced as 'being done to you' as this feels like being abused again. Our counsellors are human beings and we're not embarrassed about it. We have a great sense of humour and we're not afraid to use it. Of course this work is serious, extremely sometimes, but it can be fun too, our therapy room is filled with laughter more often than tears. The atmosphere is relaxed, we make tea (and coffee), we have cooking facilities and if you want to use the toilet we won't think it's got anything to do with us.
I et al counsellors are Integrates, fully qualified and highly experienced at working with Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID). We are fully committed to I et al and delivering long term therapy for as long as Multiple clients need us so there is no need to be concerned about being abandoned. As working with Multiples is such a massive investment by both the multiple and therapist there is anassessmentprocess and opportunities to decide if therapy is right for you.
Our counsellors are Survivors of Child Sexual Abuse/Child Abuse, our supervisor (all counsellors must have clinical supervision) is too. We are all members of the BACP and subscribe to the BACP Ethical Framework whichmeans you can be confident that you will receive a quality professional safe therapy.
Counselling for people who support Community Members.
Sometimes family and friends need help to understand what is happening for a Survivor and how to help them. It can be frightening to observe flashbacks and other PTSD symptoms in someone you love or care for. We also provide counselling and support to those supporting multiples which this includes family members, partners and friends, this may just be a one off information type session or a number of sessions.
EMDR, a powerful psychological treatment for PTSD is also available at I et al to compliment talking therapies.
Where we deliver counselling
Most therapy is delivered in our private counselling suite in a beautiful countryside setting either from the therapy room, outside if the sun is shining, on line and by phone.
We have intense weeks away near a beach somewhere at least twice a year.
We deliver on-line and telephone counselling, please talk to us.
On Line/Telephone Counselling
Counselling is best done face to face, but sometimes, especially for busy people or people living a long way away this isn't possible, So in addition to face to face counselling we also deliver therapy by Skype or similar. This means that no matter where you are in the world you can have counselling with us.
Sessions start for an hour once a week but are usually longer for multiples or people living at distance which would be discussed atassessment.
Fees are normally £40 per hour which can be discussed. Please remember counsellors are self-employed, this is how we earn our living.
We appreciate counselling for Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) is expensive so we do negotiate prices. We have recently become a Not for Profit Community Interest Company so we can apply for funding. We have a waiting list of multiples unable to afford any contribution. Please let us know if finance would be an issue for you so we have evidence to demonstrate the need for I et al to support our funding applications contact us
Many of our clients work with us for long periods or over a number of years. We understand it's important for Multiples to know that their therapist will be available for them in the years to come so they can chose to have blocks of counselling when they need them without needing to start again with a new counsellor. If this is an issue for you please discuss it with us as it is important that both therapist and client understand before either make a commitment for long term work together.
What to expect?
If you contact us about counselling you will be invited to an assessment to discuss your therapeutic need. This is an opportunity for you and your potential counsellor to explore working together.
